ArtLies
ArtLies, the Texas art journal, began in Houston in 1994 as a free publication featuring writing about art by emerging and established writers. In the years before digital communication the magazine made significant contributions to the discourse of contemporary art in the state. I was lucky enough to have the oportunity to write for ArtLies several times in the years after grad school. Diana R. Block, curator and director of the UNT Art Gallery, suggested I write exhibition reviews to sharpen my skills and I was mentored in these efforts by then ArtLies editor and artist Benito Huerta. I am remain grateful to both of them for encouraging me in those early professional years.
