"No no no no I want you to be wide awake and hear details you’ve never heard before!"
Gfeller + Hellsgård
March 7 – May 4, 2019
Christian Gfeller and Anna Hellsgård have been working together since 2001 and are recognized for their commitment to rethinking and stretching the limits of the screen-printing process through experimentation. The French-Swedish duo work across a wide range of media, including zines, books, posters, installation and painting, and their vibrant style is best described as a hybrid of handcraft, punk and pop abstraction. In their own words: "We have been exploring screen-printing for over 20 years. From experimental zines, we slowly shifted to unique artists' books, monotypes and paintings, but we always felt there was more to be done. We wanted to go to the essence of the process, push the boundaries of the medium, be radical. We were looking for a way to transcend the rigidity of the technique. So we had to rethink and simplify, to finally get the form and content in adequacy. That's how we started doing monumental minimal printing."
A site-specific print installation with large, temporary wooden structures, “No no no no I want you to be wide awake and hear details you’ve never heard before!” was co-curated with Rachel Livedalen, Associate Professor of Art at Texas Christian University. It was programmed as part of Texchange, the 2019 SGC International Conference, Dallas. SGC International is an educational non-profit organization committed to informing their membership about issues and processes concerning original prints, drawings, book arts, and handmade paper.
